New “Cape Cod Speaker Series” Launching in August with Harvard Law Professor
July 24, 2024Starting this August, Cape Cod will bring nationally renowned experts to the community for the newly established “Cape Cod Speaker Series.” Modelled after similar speaker series in Boston, San Francisco, Nantucket, and Martha’s Vineyard, the Cape Cod Speaker Series will feature national thought leaders speaking at the Tilden Arts Center at Cape Cod Community College throughout the year.
Jonathan L. Zittrain, a Professor of International Law for Harvard Law School, will be the Series’ first speaker. His presentation, “The Genius, the Eccentricities, and the Challenges of Artificial Intelligence,” will take place in the Tilden Arts Center on Tuesday, August 13 at 7:30 p.m. Zittrain, who is also a professor of computer science at the Harvard School of Engineering and Applied Sciences, is the co-founder of the Berkman Klein Center for Internet and Society and the author of several books on the subject of technology.
The Cape Cod Speaker Series was formed by a group of Cape Codders interested in bringing national voices to the region. Encouraged and advised by David Gergen, the former Press Secretary for President Ronald Reagan and advisor to three other presidents the group formed the Speaker Series as a non-profit organization with any surplus income, after setting aside funds for future operations, going to financial support for students at Cape Cod Community College.
“Since coming to Cape Cod every Summer, first as renters and now as owners, my wife and I have marveled at the spirit of community found here,” Gergen said. “That’s why we are joining our friends and neighbors in taking a next step: creation of a speaker series inviting luminaries to share their wisdom and joy. We are all in this together!”
Ticket’s for Zittrain’s presentation are available at:

“After months of conversations with many dedicated volunteers, we are thrilled to finally bring the Speaker Series to life this Summer,” said Gene D. Guill, President of the Cape Cod Speaker Series. “Our communities deserve to have the same cultural and educational opportunities as our friends in Boston and beyond. I’m very appreciative for the hard work and dedication of my fellow volunteers in getting the program off the ground and to Cape Cod Community College for hosting us. We can’t wait to get started.”
The Cape Cod Speaker Series welcomes all who wish to join as a volunteer or donor and are accepting queries and applications now. To learn more about the Series and upcoming events, please see capecodspeakers.org.
