90.7 WKKL Welcomes Back Alumni, Special Guests for Station Re-Launch

Starting this Tuesday, February 2, 90.7 WKKL at Cape Cod Community College is celebrating its return to the airwaves with the help of radio station alumni who have found radio success on the national and local stage.  Like Bill Murray’s “Groundhog Day”, expect to flashback to a different WKKL alumni each hour playing Cape Cod’s Classic Alternative music in a return to WKKL’s roots.  Check out 90.7 WKKL on the air and over the brand new live stream at capecod.edu/wkkl.

Among those returning to WKKL next week are:

• National radio and TV personality Clarence Barnes.
• National radio personality Don Gaston
• New York radio and records personality/music programmer RJ Jordan
• Local Radio Personalities Tracy Lynn, Rick Burgess, and Dan Towers.
• 4Cs 2020 Alumna of the Year winner, Sarah Colvin
• Cape Cod Life’s Radio Personality of the Year, Stephanie Viva, who will be simulcasting her “Lemonadio” show with 4Cs students on Thursdays from 7:00 – 10:00 a.m.
• WKKL alumna and Boston radio host Kristen Eck, who will be simulcasting her “Bumblebee Radio” indie music show on Fridays from 10:00 a.m. – Noon.
• Local radio personality and 4Cs radio professor, Lisa Z.

The new programming joins a new rotation of classic hits and existing shows like “Manic Mondays” and Golden Era radio, hosted by 4Cs Communications professor Tyler Daniels.

“WKKL has produced some of the best broadcasting talent in our region and beyond, and we are delighted so many are giving back to the station to help us celebrate our re-launch,” said John Cox, President of Cape Cod Community College. “The success of WKKL has always been built on community support, like the Makkay family who helped grow the station’s footprint on campus through the establishment of the Makkay Broadcasting Center. We are excited to welcome in the new generation of student broadcasters who will benefit from our classes and the live experience WKKL provides.”

After being off its 90.7 FM signal for several months, the historic college radio station came back on the air after making investments in renovations and upgrades in several technical items. Upon its return, WKKL went back to its roots, returning to a Classic Alternative music format. The College has also strategized new ways to revamp College courses and programming to provide a more robust broadcasting education to students.

“The Makkay family is thrilled that the College has made the commitment to refurbishing the WKKL studios and supporting it with a vibrant broadcasting and communications curriculum, lead by Lisa Zinsius Supka,” said Allison Makkay Davis. “College radio has traditionally served as springboard into broadcasting. With the new studio equipment, WKKL will now be able to expose its students to a broader array of media options and career opportunities. This is exactly the mission we intended in 2003 when we made a similar commitment to this Cape Cod institution.”
