Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival Returns to 4Cs January 28–February 1

Starting January 28, Cape Cod Community College will once again become one of the country’s hottest hubs for theater and performing arts as they welcome back the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival (KCACTF).

The Festival, one of eight regional events held across the country, will convene on Cape from Tuesday, January 28 through Saturday, February 1, and will celebrate the finest and most diverse work produced in university and college theater programs. The event also serves as a boon to the local economy, thanks to traveling guests, and a catalyst for developing new works and talent. This year, nearly 800 students from more than 50 schools will travel to the Cape to participate.

“We are thrilled to hose the KCACTF one again,” said Vana Trudeau, Tilden Arts Center Coordinator and incoming co-Chair for Region One “This year, students will deepen their practice as artists and explore educational opportunities and career pathways at all levels. Our students have the chance to learn from renowned industry professionals and visiting faculty from colleges across the region.”

During the festival, five colleges will be staging live productions, representing a broad spectrum of work, and all crafted by women playwrights. Shows this year include two different productions of The Wolves, by Sarah DeLappe, For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When the Rainbow is Enuf, by Ntozake Shange; Pass Over, by Antoinette Nwandu and Revolt. She Said. Revolt. Again. by Alice Birch.

“During a time of year where Cape Cod might otherwise be quiet, we’re proud to host an event that breathes such vibrant life into our community,” said John Cox, President of Cape Cod Community College. “This festival not only brings newcomers to our region, but it exposes rising stars in the arts to national talent. Over the years, several of our students have found their ‘next step’ as artists involved in the KCACTF Festival.”

The 2020 Festival, which utilizes the Resort & Conference Center in Hyannis and the Cape Codder Resort as host hotels for conference space, offers nearly 100 workshops in topics ranging from stage combat to stage management and everything in between. Industry presenters include The Yale School of Drama, The National Theatre Institute, The Dramatists Guild, The Stagecraft Institute of Las Vegas, the Broadway Theatre Program, Open Jar Theatre and more. Students will vie for scholarships and internships, audition for summer theatre companies and 4-year programs, as well as interview for job opportunities in design, administration and technical theatre.
