4Cs to Move All Summer, Fall Classes Exclusively to Online/Remote, Hybrid Format

Cape Cod Community College (4Cs) has announced that all courses for the remainder of the Summer semester, and the entire Fall semester beginning in September, will be moved exclusively to online, remote, or hybrid learning formats. In making this decision, the College ensures the continuation of classes and the commitment to high-quality teaching and learning, enabling all students to progress, successfully achieving their educational goals uninterrupted in a digital space in response to COVID-19.

Registration for the Summer and Fall semesters at 4Cs is open now with Summer I classes beginning May 18. A second, 7-week Summer session starts July 8, and the Fall 2020 semester kicks off September 8.

“As the world continues to evolve in the wake of COVID-19, it’s critical that our College be able to quickly respond to the higher education needs of the communities we serve,” said John Cox, President of Cape Cod Community College. “There is disruption all around us, including in higher education. High school graduates previously planning on living on campuses this September now have no such guarantee. We want students everywhere to know that 4Cs is open, and we’re doing so safely and creatively in digital spaces. There’s no need for gap years or lost time towards degrees or certificates with our virtual doors now open for all students.”

Along with the move to online, remote, and hybrid learning options, 4Cs is also now offering four programs that can be completed entirely online: Business, Liberal Arts Transfer Concentration, Liberal Arts General Studies Concentration, Liberal Arts History Concentration, and Sustainable Energy certification.

“Part of our mission as a community college is to respond to educational needs when we see them,” said Arlene Rodriguez, Vice President of Academic and Student Affairs for Cape Cod Community College. “Countless students, especially those just graduating from high school, are facing the prospect of spending tens-of-thousands of dollars at four-year institutions this Fall, with no guarantee that they will have amenities like dorms or on-campus activities. One course at 4Cs costs just $670 compared to the same courses at local four-year colleges that cost more than $2,000 on average. It makes sense to take courses at 4Cs, stay on track with a higher education degree, and then transfer those credits with huge cost savings.”

Through the “MassTransfer” program and other transfer articulation agreements, students who take classes at 4Cs can take classes, earn college credit, then transfer those credits to four-year institutions provided they meet GPA and other academic requirements. Many of the courses available during the Summer and Fall semesters at 4Cs are general education courses that can satisfy program requirements for other Massachusetts public higher education institutions.

In March, Cape Cod Community College moved the remainder of the Spring 2020 semester to online, remote learning platforms at all campus locations in West Barnstable, Hyannis, Bridgewater State University, and Plymouth Municipal Airport. In April, the College announced that its entire slate of Summer classes would follow suit.
