4Cs Partnering with Institute of American Indian Arts on New Transfer Agreement

Starting in Spring 2020, students in Cape Cod Community College’s (CCCC) performing arts program will have the opportunity to transfer credits to the Institute of American Indian Arts (IAIA) in Santa Fe, New Mexico to pursue a Bachelor of Fine Arts as part of a newly established articulation agreement between the two institutions.

The “2+2” agreement will allow students to seamlessly transfer credits to IAIA after the completion of the Associate of Arts Degree (Performing Arts Concentration) at CCCC. Students enrolled at CCCC can graduate in two years, taking 15-credits or more per semester, then continue on to IAIA to finish their Bachelor degree in another two years.

“As the Cape and Island’s center of higher education, Cape Cod Community College has the distinct honor of serving thousands of students every year from our region, including many from the Wampanoag Tribes,” said John Cox, President of CCCC. “This agreement with the esteemed IAIA, the congressionally chartered, public tribal college in Santa Fe, New Mexico focusing on Native American art and operating the Museum of Contemporary Native Arts, is a landmark moment in how we serve our Native American students, and all students interested in their culture. Students who now come into our very well respected Arts program will have this tremendous transfer opportunity readily available.”

To be eligible for transfer, CCCC students must complete the Associate of Arts (Performing Arts Concentration) with a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher. With this requirement met, transferring students will have their application fees waived by IAIA and will be automatically admitted.

“We look forward to collaborating for mutual benefit with CCCC to enhance our missions in serving our respective student populations,” said Robert Martin, President of IAIA. “This articulation agreement provides a pathway for CCCC students to earn a BFA in Performing Arts from an Indigenous perspective and offers IAIA a tremendous opportunity to serve citizens of Tribal Nations in Massachusetts.”

Students graduating in the CCCC Performing Arts concentration can transfer to IAIA starting in Fall 2020, so long as they complete their application by July 27. To enroll in the Spring 2021 semester, graduating students must complete their application to IAIA by January 4, 2021.
