4Cs Launches the First Micro-credential Digital Badge Program

In a continuing effort to offer the most relevant and timely education and training programs, Cape Cod Community College has launched a “Professional Skills Digital Badging Program” to help community members enhance their resumes and local businesses strengthen their workforce and employee credentials. The Digital Badging Program is the first of its kind in Massachusetts and will launch in November with four content areas: Intercultural Fluency, Resilience, Initiative and Collaboration.

Offered entirely online, the 4Cs Digital Badge program allows community members to earn official credentials that demonstrate expertise in “soft skill” areas that local employers are looking for. Once completed, the badges can be added to your resume as tangible evidence of the skills you have perfected in the program.

“When we look into the communities we serve, we often hear from employers that there’s a growing need for ‘life skills’ that you don’t always get in a traditional classroom,” said Tammi Jacobsen, Director of Workforce Development and Training. “Our College is dedicated to matching the needs of our students with the needs of our employers, so we set out to close that gap. Our digital badge program is a way for students and members of the workforce to engage in lifelong learning to gain valuable skills that are not always easily communicated on a resume.”

Local employers consistently state that professional skills are equally important to discipline knowledge. With digital badges, participants will be able to show employers that they have acquired skills that will make themselves a productive employee. Badges are a valuable addition to your resume that go beyond your academic transcript.

“The 4Cs Digital Badge program is beneficial for both students and employers. Participants will receive the recognition for the unique skills earned, as well as enhancing their resume and highlighting and their training,” said Kara Galvin, Director of the Cape and Islands Workforce Board. “The Digital Badges will provide employers with the secure knowledge of a demonstrated skill set or competency from those individuals they recently hired or sent to training.”

Registration is open now for the 4Cs Badge Programs now. Each program lasts 3–4 weeks and introductory pricing is available for a limited time.

The Digital Badge Micro-credentials are authorized by Education Design Lab, a national non-profit located in Washington, D.C., and issued by Cape Cod Community College. The micro-credentials have been co-designed with employers and are assessed by institutional facilitators. Across the suite of micro-credentials, learners engage in rigorous learning experiences that intentionally develop workplace skills.
