4Cs and Upper Cape Tech to Offer Free Advanced Manufacturing Courses Starting February 11

Cape Cod Community College has partnered with Upper Cape Regional Technical School to provide two free workforce certification courses in Advanced Manufacturing that lead to opportunity for immediate, full-time employment with benefits. The courses will both be held at night at Upper Cape Tech and will prepare students to work for local manufacturing companies that specialize in design and assembly of machinery, computers, boats, aquaculture, cabinetry and more.

The courses are free to adults who are either recent high school graduates or are currently enrolled in classes to prepare for the GED or HiSET exams. Students must also be able to provide that they are legally eligible to work in the United States.

“We hear it time and again: members of our community are looking for education and training that leads them and their families to brighter futures,” said John Cox, President of Cape Cod Community College. “Across our communities, Advanced Manufacturing is a booming industry, and they are looking for the next generation of employees. We are thrilled to be able to offer these certification courses, at no cost to those who are eligible, so that we can pair community want with industry need.”

The first certification course is called “Level 1: Basic Manufacturing Skills for Assembler or Warehouse Employment” and starts February 11, 2020 at Upper Cape Tech. Over the span of 17 classes, running Mondays and Tuesdays from 6:00–9:00pm, students are introduced to manufacturing technology, reading and interpreting technical drawings and blueprints, and basic safety and workplace readiness. With a passing score of 85%, students are then able to take the second free course that starts immediately after.

In “Level 2: Basic Manufacturing Skills and Machine Operators and Inspectors,” which starts April 27, 2020 and runs for 19 classes also on Mondays and Tuesdays from 6:00–9:00pm, students are prepared for an entry-level Machine Operators and Inspectors Manufacturing Skills certification, learning the ins-and-outs of Computer Numerical Control (CNC) milling technology, programming, and turning technology to make parts.

An Info Session will be held at Upper Cape Tech, 220 Sandwich Rd, Bourne, MA 02532 on Monday night, February 10, from 6:00–8:00pm.

Seats in the two free courses are limited, so prospective students are encouraged now to register for the first course that starts February 11. Attending the Info Session on February 10 is highly encouraged.
