Cape Cod Media Conference Swings Back Around This Spring

Are you looking for a chance to network with other professionals? Interested in a specific career field? Want to get advice?
Cape Cod Community College and 90.7 WKKL radio station are hosting the 2024 Cape Cod Media Conference. The conference features both students of 4Cs and professional media personalities. The conference takes place from 8:30 a.m. to 2:50 p.m. both in person at the Frank & Maureen Wilkens Science & Engineering Center at the West Barnstable Campus and on Zoom on Friday April 12.
The first half hour is a sign-in and meet and greet portion for everyone to congregate before the official welcome portion. The first three sessions before lunch are pick your choice sessions.
The first breakout sessions are called “Writing with Purpose: Life on the MainSheet” and “Be Your Brand” It is a choice between MainSheet staff speaking on their experience working on a newspaper or a panel focused on how to grow your own brand.
The second breakout sessions are called “The Writer’s Life” and “In The Studio”. “The Writer’s Life” features writers who explain how they balance pursuing their passion while supporting themselves. “In The Studio” features live interview session in the broadcasting center with local media personalities and 4Cs radio students.
The last breakout sessions are called “Pursuing Your Passion: Making It as a Freelance Critic” and “Voice Acting with Sailor Moon” It features a choice between how to become a freelance critic and the trade-offs involved or a voice acting seminar with Terri Hawkes, voice of Sailor Moon, to talk about the industry and how she brings animated characters to life.
Lunch will be provided as well as an opportunity to talk to all the panelists in a more relaxed environment at noon. After lunch everyone can float around between a student showcase in the form of an open mic where writers, readers, and vocalists have the chance to showcase their creativity and talent. Students can also get tips on their resume and get professional headshots taken. The Makkay Broadcast Center will also be open at this time for tours and interviews. The last session of the day is another general session for everyone to go to about breaking into an industry and landing a job.
