A Thankful Goodbye

by Olivia Appleton

With finals about to start and the spring semester coming to a close, I want to express my gratitude for all 4Cs has given me throughout my two to three years attending. I would not feel as comfortable or committed to myself if I had not attended 4Cs after high school. Once I graduated high school, I had no idea what I wanted to major in as well as where I wanted to go to school. I knew the admission process was too stressful for me at the time, so I took the time I needed to figure out my goals while attending 4Cs.

This gave me the opportunity to take classes I was interested in and really figure out what I wanted to major in, therefore leading me to the MainSheet. Writing stories for the MainSheet has provided me with a collection of skills I am ready to use in the real world, such as making intense deadlines to writing in different formats and learning about what it takes to be an ethical journalist. From writing my first, quite messy story to writing first person pieces and hard news stories, I learned that I truly loved writing for a cause. This helped me significantly in finally deciding my major: English.

From there, my academic career skyrocketed. From being a journalist at the MainSheet to becoming managing editor, I acquired more leadership roles as well as the enjoyment of helping others improve their writing. Next came my role as being a peer tutor at the Tutoring Center and I really grasped how much I enjoy working in this field. Since attending 4Cs, I see how much I’ve grown as a person, and I am so thankful for choosing the pathway I did. I feel so ready to take on the next chapter in my life.

Although I am very sad that I am graduating this May, I will forever be grateful for the experience of participating in the MainSheet. I’ve worked with so many fabulous people and look forward to seeing where the MainSheet will go in the coming years. After graduation, I will be attending Simmons University in Boston where I hope to grow even more and see where my career will take me as an English major.
