What’s in Sea Change 2023?
by Thomas Schultze
Sea Change brings together all pieces of art from many talented poets, writers, painters, playwriters, and sculptors. They have currently received over 40 pieces of artwork to be selected for publication in the 2023 Sea Change magazine. The purpose of Sea Change is to inspire creativity in students and faculty and show what they are capable of by giving them an outlet, as the event host, Dan Sexton-Riley states. Participants can achieve confidence and courage for putting out a work that they want other people to read or see and inspire creativity in other people.
Sea Change is an annual event that occurs every spring semester at 4C’s. It is when students and faculty submit artwork such as poetry, a short story, a video of a short play, or a photograph of a painting or sculpture that they made. Each piece is analyzed by the Sea Change team. The pieces that are selected will be published in either the Sea Change magazine or the word press website. Artwork and writing pieces will be submitted to the Sea Change magazine while videos such as short plays will be submitted to the Sea Change WordPress website. Their goal was to reach 100 submissions, and based on the results provided by the host, that goal was reached beyond their expectations. There are 149 visual art submissions, 47 poetry submissions, and 13 fiction/nonfiction stories. All videos of short plays will be submitted to the word press website. There will be between 30 and 60 pieces that will be published to the magazine. The Sea Change magazine is a campus exclusive, and anyone can request a copy of the magazine in the mail. The Sea Change team encourages more professors to submit artwork to next year’s edition of Sea Change.
