Students to Share Their Thoughts at 4C’s Poetry Slam

by Olivia Appleton

Are you interested in poetry?

Have you ever thought about presenting your work to an audience?

The Collegiate Recovery Program will host a poetry slam open to all students and faculty. The poetry slam is going to be on April 12 from 2 to 3:30 p.m. in Grossman Commons. The event is an opportunity for students to share their work and thoughts with the 4C’s community. It is the Collegiate Recovery Program’s first poetry slam at 4C’s. Cheryl Kramer, the student wellness case manager, is running this event.

“There is no right or wrong way for someone to express themselves, and writing can be shared publicly or kept private,” says Kramer.

During the event, there will be brief instructions on writing and how to map out thoughts before presentations begin so students can be prepared. It is being offered on the weekly club timeframe so anyone can choose to participate.

This event is part of the celebration for National Collegiate Recovery Day on April 15. This is an opportunity for colleges to celebrate students in recovery and attending class in their journeys. At 4C’s, the program is choosing to celebrate on April 11 and 12.

“The Poetry Slam is an opportunity for all students to attend and learn more about writing about their experiences (not just for those in recovery) or feelings and doing it in a way that they may want to share or just keep private but learn to write in a way that can be therapeutic for the individual,” says Kramer.
