Student Government Presidential Candidate: Olivia Williams
by Olivia Williams
The MainSheet invited both candidates running for Student Government President, Olivia Williams, and Thalles De Souza to write up to 250 words to readers about why they want to become president.
Below is what Olivia Williams had to say:
It has been my honor to serve the college as the Student Trustee, the liaison between the student body and the Board of Trustees. This opportunity allowed me to accompany President Cox and several Board of Trustee members as a delegation to Washington, D.C, where we spoke with Congressman Keating, U.S. Senator Markey, and Undersecretary of Education James Kvaal on behalf of the 4Cs community about issues such as food insecurity and financial aid. Food and housing insecurity became a passion of mine when I was six and began volunteering at the Housing Assistance Corporation. I will continue President Robbin's food discount card and expand resources and access to the food pantry. I also recognize the value of diverse perspectives in furthering our school's legacy, and I have highlighted them in my two years in Student Government, both in my current role and in my previous role as Parliamentarian. My roles as Managing Editor of The MainSheet newspaper and Managing Editor and Poetry Department Editor of the Sea Change Literary Magazine demonstrate my ability to connect fully with the students. In order to be successful in these positions, I have demonstrated a strong work ethic, dedication, and organization. I also consistently maintain a 4.0 GPA, as well as being a member of Phi Theta Kappa Honors Society, and a Commonwealth Scholar. Please vote for me when polls open on April 26th and 27th so I can use my skills and vision to serve you with the distinction that you deserve.
Olivia Williams. (Noah Bell)
