Kate Martin Delves into The Honors Club
by Makayla Crowley
At Cape Cod Community College, there are many clubs and extracurriculars that are offered that range from Anime Club to Dental Hygiene Club. Professor Kate Martin, in addition to teaching, is the director of The Honors Program and the advisor of The Honors Club. This week, Martin answered some questions about what The Honors Club has to offer.
Q: What is The Honors Club?
A: The Honors Club is one of the student clubs here at 4C’s that combines learning with fun activities, such as outdoor walks. When COVID was in full swing, we did community service outside and went on outdoor field trips all while staying socially distanced.
Q: When does the club meet?
A: We meet as a group every Wednesday at 2:15 pm, either on Zoom or in person.
Q: Do you have to be in The Honors Program to participate in The Honors Club?
A: No! Anybody who is a student at 4C’s in good academic standing is able to be a part of The Honors Club.
Q: Where has been your favorite field trip so far?
A: Overall, my favorite field trip so far has been a walk with a birding expert in Harwich, Brewster, and Eastham. It was very cool because it gave me a chance to be on the same page with the students learning rather than teaching, and allowed me to connect more with my students.
Q: What are your upcoming plans for The Honors Club?
A: Currently, we are running a toy drive through March 31, where we are accepting donations for any outdoor toys for children such as sidewalk chalk and jump ropes. We also have a planned field trip to the Whydah Pirate Museum in West Yarmouth, and the Boston Freedom Trail.
Q: How would a prospective student sign up?
A: Send an email to [email protected], sign an anti-hazing form, and you’re in. That’s all it takes.
