The Community College Survey of Student Engagement (CCSSE) is a survey sent out every four years to monitor institutional effectiveness over time and it “helps assess quality in a Cape Cod Community College education” according to Ellen Scott, staff associate in the Office of Institutional Research and Planning at Cape Cod Community College and Marie Murphy, Research Analyst in the Office of Institutional Research and Planning.
This year, the Student Government and Asher Hamilton collectively came up with the idea of adding Red Sox tickets as an incentive to do the CCSSE according to Max Kennedy, the Student Trustee at Cape Cod Community College.
The Red Sox tickets giveaway includes three drawings managed by Institutional Research and Planning, who also promote the tickets and distribute them to winners. In 2018, the last time the CCSSE survey was sent out, it was a pencil-and-paper survey with approximately 330 students that completed it. However, unlike past years, the survey is conducted online with approximately 394 students completing it as of March 28, 2022.
Although the Office of Institutional Research and Planning would like every eligible student to complete the survey, their goal is to have at least 35% of eligible students enrolled during the Spring 2022 semester, which would be about 730 students completing the survey before the May 11th deadline.
Both Scott and Murphy believe that the Red Sox tickets promotion has generated interest in the CCSSE survey, which has resulted in more students taking it since they announced the giveaway on March 22, 2022. Scott and Murphy hope that students will see the value in providing feedback to the college about their Cape Cod Community College experience with or without an incentive and “are fortunate to have the support of the 4Cs faculty and staff who are working to encourage students to take the survey”.
One great addition to the Red Sox tickets incentive is that eligible students who complete the survey before the May 11th deadline will be entered to win one of three $100 Amazon gift cards. The CCSSE survey is accessible as a Moodle shell on every students’ Moodle page.
