Profile Piece: Asher Hamilton

Maybe you’ve seen a friendly face at orientation as a freshman, or you engaged with someone at a campus event, or even saw someone putting up seasonal decorations in the halls. It’s likely you’ve run into Asher Hamilton doing one or more of these things while on campus. If not, maybe you’ll recognize her name from your school email, reminding you of different things coming up at Cape Cod Community College (4C’s).
Hamilton is 4C’s Student Engagement Coordinator, and has been for almost two years.
“I was drawn to the area because of its rich history. I heard about the position from a friend in Falmouth, who said I would be perfect,” she says. “I remember her saying, ‘Apply; you never know.’”

Hamilton attended San Jose State University in California, where she graduated with a degree in communication studies. Before coming to 4C’s, she worked in higher education and at K-12 institutions.
“I enjoy the idea of working in a climate of learning,” she says. “Each individual I have worked with has a unique learning style, and I want to apply my communication style to the variety found within those I communicate with.”
Hamilton has this advice for students on how to succeed in college: “Academics are always essential, but a deep understanding of one's identity seems to be the most sustainable well beyond (when) a ‘college student identity’ has worn off, as much as college is a big part of a student's identity right now. Right now expires, and tomorrow we will see it becomes a responsibility to create a welcoming tomorrow for others. Part of that creation starts with understanding thyself. Once that is done, we are more likely to welcome and include the voices of others.”
In her free time, Hamilton loves to ride her bike up and down the canal. Before moving to Massachusetts, she ran in competitive races, and she even plans to start running competitively again when the weather gets warmer.
