As the end of the 2021-2022 academic year comes to a close, so too does the tenure of the current student editing staff at the MainSheet.

Jade Francis, editor-in-chief, and co-managing editors Viveca Stucke and Jessica Currier will be going on to four-year universities come August: Francis to Merrimack College in North Andover; Stucke to The College of the Holy Cross in Worcester; and Currier to Bridgewater University in Bridgewater.

"Jade has been an exceptional leader, and Jess and Viveca have offered strong support," Tim Miller, MainSheet faculty adviser, said. "Losing all three at once is tough, but I'm excited about the three students taking over."

Beginning this fall, the MainSheet’s new editing staff will be Amber Rivard, editor-in-chief; and Olivia Appleton and Livvy Williams, co-managing editors.
“I am so excited to be taking on the role of editor this fall; the Mainsheet means so much to me,” Rivard said. “I love journalism, and I can't wait to work with Journalism 1 students!”
Miller selected the new editors.

"I considered many factors in choosing these editors, including writing talent, leadership qualities, and an understanding of what makes quality journalism," Miller says. "Perhaps most of all, I looked for commitment. I believe Amber, Olivia and Livvy will make a great team in leading the MainSheet to bigger and better things."

Miller says those "bigger and better things" include regular online editions of the MainSheet, to run every two weeks; a regular MainSheet podcast; and a return to journalism students meeting on campus instead of online.

Articles for the MainSheet are produced by students in the Journalism I and Journalism II classes, both taught by Miller.
"Journalism 1 offers students, whether experienced writers or not, the opportunity to learn about journalism, improve their writing and get published in a newspaper," Miller says. "The students then can build on what they've learned in Journalism 2."
Registration for both of these classes is still available.
