Masks are No Longer Mandatory.

by Jacob Varney

Cape Cod Community College (4C's) has decided to move forward with mask-optional learning on campus. This decision comes after careful consideration, discussion, and reviewing of COVID-19 statistics, as stated by President John Cox. Students, faculty, and visitors now have the option to be maskless at the Hyannis Center, Plymouth Aviation Center, and the Funeral Service program at Bridgewater State University. This change went into effect Wednesday, April 20, 2022.

According to an email from Cox, the decision to go mask-optional is subject to change. The email also stated that at this moment, statistics show that COVID-19 cases in the 4C’s community have declined, but this does not mean that students and faculty can lower their standards of hygiene and cleanliness, we need to stay diligent in protecting our health so that on-campus learning can stay mask optional.

Although 4C's is now mask-optional, there are some rules and regulations such as any gatherings of over 40 people, such as commencement at the Cape Cod Melody Tent, and the Evening of Excellence in the at Tilden Arts Center, and other events will require everyone to wear masks. One thing that has not changed is that social distancing will remain at 3 three feet for situations that do not require masks.
