MainSheet reflection: Viveca Stucke, Co-Managing Editor
by Viveca Stucke
Community and connections are themes at the center of my major: political science. I thought I could learn about what fuels and heightens relationships and networking in a textbook. Instead, I learned about it at my college newspaper.
During my time as a writer and a managing editor for the MainSheet, the importance of community was highlighted. My connections to the college grew, as did my understanding of the significance of involvement on the campus.
As a dual enrollment student, I at first felt disconnected from 4C’s, and I felt that my purpose on campus was purely educational. However, the MainSheet taught me that the lessons the college teaches will always run deeper than the degree that I earn.
With the MainSheet, I was enlightened to the intricacies of the activities on campus. I never knew how prominent WKKL was, the impact that certain professors had on students, or even that the college would have food trucks on campus for students to indulge in. But through the MainSheet, it was ingrained in me that I need to look at the details, rather than the big picture. 4C’s is much more than the nursing program, the aviation courses, or even the thousands of courses that it offers. 4C’s is a community filled with varying interests, activities, and passions.
Networking is an essential aspect of the Mainsheet, because of the inherent need to interact with people and learn more about topics that you lack knowledge on. This networking enriched my life through its lesson that this campus has a spot for everyone, including me.
Although journalism is not my passion in life, my desire directly parallels the goal of the MainSheet: ; to further the importance of the community around you. I’m thankful that my time with the MainSheet allowed me to do this, and I’m grateful that it gave me the necessary tools to grow as a person, a writer, a future politician, and a community member.
