Staying safe while shopping during time of social distancing.

We all have different ways of dealing with the terrible pandemic caused by the Coronavirus. Whether it is staying inside, washing hands, or bringing hand sanitizer everywhere you go. We are all doing what we can to keep ourselves and our families safe. But what if you have to go outside to get groceries? We do not take this virus for granted, because of the insane amount of deaths and hospitalizations that this virus has caused across the globe.
People have come up with different ways to protect themselves when leaving the house, such as wearing doctor’s masks, vinyl gloves and using hand sanitizer. But people have come up with different protective solutions if they don’t have the proper tools. Some are using bandanas, cloth masks, and even scarves as a substitute for a mask.
Due to the Coronavirus, many people are ordering take-out to satisfy their hunger. People do not want to cook and they do not want to go to the grocery store because of the risk of catching the virus.
“Whenever I go out, I make sure I have my gloves and mask on, and I have my big bottle of hand sanitizer in my car,” said Cape Cod Community College (4Cs) student Sean Rodgers. “I have a crazy amount of toilet paper, bottled water and canned goods at my house.”
Online shopping has become the norm. The mall and any clothing stores have closed and the employees have been laid off. So, in order for people to still look stylish they take to online shopping to satisfy their needs. Plus, it is much safer to shop online so that people do not have to worry about acquiring the virus through physical human interaction.
“I pride myself on shopping online. I still look stylish and fresh while at the same time protecting myself from the virus and other people,” said Rodgers. “This is a scary time in history, so whatever I have to do to protect myself, if it is shopping online, then I will do so gladly.”
Everyone is taking the necessary approach and precautions when dealing with the Coronavirus. Online shopping and ordering take-out have been in high demand due to people not wanting to step outside because they are too afraid of the virus. People have come to the point where they even do their grocery shopping online as well. It shows how scary this point in time really is. This virus has affected our daily lives significantly. When people are doing strictly online shopping or not wanting to cook at all for fear of going to get supplies, it really makes you think and wonder: when will we come back to normal?
“Our lives have changed dramatically,” said 4Cs Professor Jacob Oni. “We never would have thought that it would come to this point in time where people are doing online shopping just to avoid others, and of course the virus. I do not take this for granted. I take this situation very seriously, and I always tell my family that whenever we come back to the house, to wash our hands because I would not want any of my family to catch this virus. We all have to take this virus seriously and stay home. Have the patience that one day we all will be normal again, and to take whatever precautions to stay safe.”
Whatever precautions you need to take to ensure the safety of you and your family, please do so. Be smart, use common sense, stay home and wash your hands. Though there may not be an end in sight anytime soon, the only way we will eventually get back to the status quo is by working together to stay safe.
