Writing Center Aides Students With Perfecting Their Papers

by Nora Bittar

Having the ability to write well-written papers is an important skill. However, many college students struggle with finding the right way to tackle their papers. The Writing Center helps the 4C’s students with any issues or questions students have related to their writing. Richard Norwood, a learning specialist for the Writing Center, answered some questions students may have about the Writing Center.

Q: What's the most common issue students receive help with?

A: I think the most common issue is the formatting their paper.

Q: How do you assist students with their writing?

A: The student will open their paper, then we’ll read it aloud together and address any of the issues we find.

Q: What can students expect to gain from a visit?

A: A better understanding of the writing process and how to write a paper.

Q: What are your hours?

A: 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday.

Q: Can students attend via Zoom?

A: Yes.

Q: Is there a limit to how many times a student can seek help

A: No.

Q: How have students responded?

A: Generally, yes. We do surveys at the end of every semester, so students have the opportunity to voice how they feel about their experience here. It's usually positive.

Q: How long has the Writing Center been at 4C’s?

A: I came here in 2011, and it was already open at the time.

Q: What type of writing do students usually seek help for?

A: All types of essays. We help students with any kind of paper across the curriculum.
