What Are 4C’s Students Reading?
by Shanel Joisil
Book recommendations can be a wonderful way to discover new books and engage in meaningful conversations. Whether you're introducing a peer to a new book they've never heard of or requesting recommendations on a topic you've been interested in, book recommendations can help students expand their literary horizons.
Recently, we had the opportunity to talk with some students from 4C’s:
Allison Vahey just finished reading “She Started It.”
“It was probably my most favorite book I’ve ever read,” she says. “It had a bunch of characters in the book, and you got to hear what each character was thinking because there wasn’t just one narrator. The ending also had a huge plot twist, which I enjoy. …
“I don’t want to say I really disliked anything about the book but the author was from the UK so some of the words in the book had things that we wouldn’t say here (in the United States) and some things I didn’t understand. There wasn’t much I didn’t like. I really love this book and would genuinely recommend to anyone who likes a good mystery book.”

Emmanuel Carmona is reading “The War of Art” by Steven Pressfield.
“In the beginning, I thought the book would be boring” he says,, but the book took him by surprise.
“The book was surprisingly super-relatable. I like how the book makes you reflect on yourself and the way we each live our life differently. I think the best part of the book is it makes you wonder how others may be living. I would really recommend this book to anyone who are looking to look at life from different perspectives.”

Thomas Schultz picked “Long Live the Pumpkin Queen” by Shea Ernshaw.
“I think what I like most about the book was how it continued ‘The Nightmare Before Christmas’ so well. It was interesting because it was from Sally Rag Doll’s perspective! … I would especially recommend to those who enjoy ‘The Nightmare Before Christmas.’”
