Welcome to the Creative Side of Campus

by Dolfina Allan

Curious about the hub of creative endeavors and hands-on craftsmanship? Look no further than Studio B, nestled in the lower level of the Tilden Arts Center.

That’s where the Art Club meets on Wednesdays at 3 p.m. during the fall and spring semesters.

The Art Club was formed last spring. Activities include sculpting, painting, drawing, and molding. There are also opportunities for art students to get their work displayed.

“The current upcoming project for Art Club is for a popular café where artwork made by students in the club will be… potentially put on display for an art show. The art can also be bought if onlookers enjoy them,” says Ian Blakeman, a member of the club.

Blakeman and Storm Woolery have been a part of Art Club since its founding. They answered a few questions about it:

Why did you join?

Blakeman: I originally joined Art Club to help get the spring semester of 2023 kicked off and into an official club. I was good friends with Bean (Sarah Kearns) and wanted a fun and creative activity to do after classes, and it needed a specific number of people to kick off, so I joined.

Do you enjoy the activities? Or wish there was more of something else?

Blakeman: The activities at Art Club have always been engaging and super fun (I) wouldn’t change anything about it.

Woolery: Some of the activities that I’ve done in the club are really interesting and pretty fun, especially if you have got a friend or two in there.

Would you recommend this club to other students? Why or why not?

Blakeman: I would recommend Art Club to other students because it is not only a place to experience exciting and creative projects but also an “art study hall” for art students to come and work on homework or art projects for their classes.

Woolery: I would recommend Art Club to other students, especially if their major is within the lines of art. Anyone pursuing an art major can also come to the club to work on some of their projects for their classes.

What was the most recent project the club did, or will be working on?

Woolery: So far in the Art Club there have not been any big activities or projects that we are working on, at least not yet…They wanted to have a mural painted somewhere on campus, and the president said something about painting Adirondack chairs… I am excited to see what they have planned.
