Tips for Finals Prep
by Nora Bittar
Final exams have arrived, and many students might feel overwhelmed.
While finals are crucial, they don't necessarily have to cause you stress. Here are a few ways to maximize your studying potential.
Go to the library
The library is a quiet place for students to study for their exams. Studying at home produces many distractions, but studying in the library limits the amount of disturbances around you. The calm environment allows you to work more efficiently and productively, which helps you do the best you can on your exams.
The library also offers many resources, such as computers, books, and research help.
For students who may have a limited amount of time, the library is a great resource for you as well. The library's wide range of hours gives you the ability to study before, in between or after classes. The library is open 8 a.m.- 8 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays, 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Fridays, 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturdays, and 1-5 p.m. Sundays.
Host a study group
According to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, studying in a group is more stimulating for students because you're able to express your ideas out loud, which helps with information retention.
Studying with others also helps you gain a better understanding of the material because it allows you to hear other perspectives.
If you have any friends who are taking the same courses as you, consider inviting them to a group study session.
Taking care of your health
While your health may not seem related to your final exams, it plays a major role in your performance.
Many students may swap out a good night's rest for more study time, which can actually negatively affect your progress. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, sleep affects a student's concentration and performance. So, by getting an adequate amount of sleep, your studying may be improved, which leads to better exam results.
Eating nutritious foods is another important aspect of your success. The Moultrie County Health Department says that eating foods with good nutrition can help improve your exam performance. Nutritious foods tend to heighten your attention and energy levels, which allows you to study to your peak potential.
Before studying or taking your exams, try eating foods rich in carbohydrates, fiber, and protein.
