Not Much Suspense in SGA Vote
by Amber Rivard
There were plenty of open positions to fill before voting kicked off for this year’s Student Government Association.
With voting now open until midnight Oct. 4, it looks like all but one post – vice-president – will be filled by candidates running unopposed.
Autumn Beltran and Nathaniel Cronin are running for vice-president. Those running unopposed are Alisha Marshall, trustee; Benjamin Chase, treasurer; Angelika Cafaro, senator; Robert Planzer, senator; and Alexandria Simoes, senator.
Last year's election was a close call. Thalles De Souza won the SGA election for president by one vote.
Why are there so many open positions?
“There can be students who choose not to return, or reassess their obligations and find they don't have the time to actively participate,” says Nancy Willets, co-adviser of SGA.
According to the 4C’s website, the role of SGA members is vital for advocacy, funding support, policy influence, and more.
“Being a part of SGA gives them a unique voice in campus life, allows them to develop leadership skills, and provides a network of colleagues to support their academic life,” Willets says.
Willets encourages students with any questions to reach out to an SGA advisor or stop by the Student Engagement Office (located in the upstairs commons).
John French is the other co-adviser for SGA.
