Destinations On Cape to ‘Fall’ For
by Nora Bittar
Cape Cod has so many fall-themes activities. While some people may mourn the loss of the warm weather until next spring, others are ready to start the fall season. The Cape is known for its beautiful scenery, and there are so many activities that can help you take in the spectacular environment. I decided to go to a few places on Cape Cod that other 4C’s students may enjoy.
The first place I went to was the West Yarmouth Congregational Church located on Route 28. The pumpkin patch runs from Oct. 1 through Oct. 31 each year, just in time for Halloween. The prices vary for each pumpkin because they are determined by size.

When you step into the pumpkin patch, you are immediately surrounded by the Capes’ fall atmosphere. People of all ages were buying pumpkins at the patch, so this could be a perfect fall activity for you and your friends and family.
Thousands of pumpkins were laid out on display. The sun that was shining on the orange pumpkins created a beautiful warm glow. However, there were other types of pumpkins on display. Seeing the different varieties of pumpkins available was super cool. There were a few pumpkins there that were well over 25 pounds, while others were able to fit in the palm of my hand. The patch also offered different colored pumpkins. While I was there, I saw white pumpkins, green pumpkins, and even multi-colored pumpkins.
Once you’re done at the pumpkin patch, you can head home to turn your pumpkin into a jack-o’-lantern; or you can leave your pumpkin intact and opt to watch a Halloween movie instead. Either way, you’ll still be able to say you had fun at the pumpkin patch.
The next place I went to was the Old Jail, located in Barnstable. The Old Jail, which is unfortunately not open to visitors currently, was built in the 1600s. The Old Jail is the oldest wooden jail in America. The jail had been home to countless amounts of prisons throughout its time until it was closed in 1820. The jail house was able to hold less than 10 prisoners, but the engravings of the prisoners' drawings can be found all around the walls.

The Old Jail may be the perfect destination to visit for people who love Halloween horror. The Old Jail is, allegedly, haunted. Since 2005, the Old Jail has been the center of paranormal investigations. Many people have accounts of seeing ghosts or hearing things, but nothing is for certain. All I can say is that I did feel a little spooked when I visited it.
