According to Asher Hamilton, co-advisor of the Student Government Association, this election is one of the most diverse elections she has seen, bringing in many different types of students with differing interests. She hopes that this fact will inspire more students to be involved in Student Government in the future.
“Student Government is for your common, everyday average student. Many students have no involvement in politics through middle or high school and this is their first opportunity to use their voices and be strategic in their thinking (which) could go far enough to reach the ears of the President of the United States!” Hamilton says.
She explains how participating in SGA allows students to develop their voice and public speaking skills and recognize their passion to “catapult” them into their future careers.
“(Running) is not about winning. It’s about stepping in the direction you’re passionate about. Leaders are not born, they’re built,” Hamilton says.
