The 'Weight' Is Over: Strong Start for Campus Workout Room
by Joshua Devlin
Hidden away in an easily missed corner of the campus, there lies a gymnasium that many students are unaware of. The concrete building, surrounded by green, grass soccer fields, houses a basketball court as well as a weight room. The weight room of the Cape Cod Community College was previously been shut down due to COVID restrictions, but has made a resurgence. A select group of students traversed the campus, amassing signatures for a petition to reinstate the weight room to its pre-COVID glory. One petitioner stated, “It is a well-forgotten fact that our campus has an adjacent weight room. We are looking to change that, and reopen the weight room for interested students to enjoy.” With many students having long stretches of time between their classes, a campus weight room gives individuals something physically active and productive to do during their downtime. The reinstatement of the weight room is a great step in the right direction, and will almost definitely increase the benefits of being a 4C’s student, especially the mental and physical health of all of the gymnasium’s users. So what are you “weight”ing for? Go ahead and hit the gym!
