Student Wellness Brings Self Care to the Community

by Thomas Schultze

Wellness Wednesdays are a new event in 4C’s. An information table is set up in the Grossman Commons cafeteria every Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and is overseen by Cheryl Kramer, the case manager of Student Wellness.

Her job is to work with students who have issues with housing, transportation, food, and health insurance. When a student needs food, they are free to come to Student Wellness, and Kramer will help them to connect to programs and services that are available. She urges students to call Student Wellness when they are having problems.

“Wellness Wednesdays are meant to acknowledge the existence of Student Wellness and to let students know that they can always turn to it whenever they need help,” she says.

She says that it can be hard for those who have just come back to campus after two years of doing classes through Zoom meetings, since it denies them the in-person experience of being a student.

The Student Wellness office is open to students from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Mondays through Fridays. Kramer also recommends that students join a college club of their interest to adapt to their in-person experience. Students who have trouble handling stress because of those issues have a place to turn to, and as Kramer says, “Everybody handles their life differently, and the fact that we’re here to help and support students is a huge benefit to this campus.”
