Finals are Coming Up

by Thomas Schultze

It’s time for students to mark their calendars because finals are coming up, as well as plenty of events coming up to celebrate the end of the semester. The history professor and honors program coordinator Kate Martin and academic counselor Harmony Carroll have provided tips on how to prepare for finals this semester.

Their tips were:

  • Stay on top of the course material throughout the rest of the semester
  • Study every 40 or 50 minutes followed by a 10-minute break
  • Use flashcards
  • Record information on a phone, tablet, or computer
  • Study in a quiet space
  • Figure out what test you are studying for
  • Give yourself enough study time and time for yourself
  • Put away distractions e.g., phones, video games, TV
  • Contact Student Wellness in case of high-stress levels
  • Communicate with faculty

Preparing for finals is about more than just studying, it’s about reaching out when help is needed and practicing self-care. Therefore, Martin urges all students to “keep breathing and put the exams into perspective,” as they are coming up within the next couple of weeks, and student health matters.

4C’s is providing students with end-of-semester events throughout December. Some of these events included are a campus breakfast followed by a campus dinner with grilled cheese sandwiches, salads, and cookies on Dec. 14, and on Dec. 20, there will be a sliders station along with ice cream sundaes. All events are listed on the 4C’s website.
