Advisers Help Students Prepare for Spring Classes

by Thomas Schultze

It’s time to get ready, as Spring 2023 is making its way to 4C’s, and, according to academic coordinator Alison Frisbie, new classes have been added to the Spring 2023 course list. The 4C’s advising office is here to help students determine which classes they’re going to be taking this upcoming semester.

Art Esposito, director of the 4C’s academic advising department, says the advising team is available to help students accomplish their academic goals and become successful with the career that they have chosen to work toward. Esposito says the advising office is there to teach students five things:

  • To familiarize them with their academic maps.
  • To help them know how to access campus websites.
  • To understand how to transfer.
  • To be more independent.
  • To use their strengths to claim their degree or certificate.

The advisers are there to guide students in selecting what classes suit their needs. Professor Esposito’s way, however, is,“teach, don’t tell.” Rather than telling students what to do, such as logging them into Moodle, they teach them how to log on themselves. This is intended to teach them independence and get them ready for the real world.

Frisbie says some classes on the spring schedule haven’t been offered in a while. They include:

BIO-110: Understanding Biotechnology.

COM-135: Speech & Debate Practicum.

COM-222: International Cinema.

COM-224: Documentary Film.

ENL-213: Poetry Writing.

ENL-217: Exploring the World of Science Fiction.

Anyone looking for help signing up for classes can go to the advising center in the Grossman Commons building, second floor, Room C-204, or can set up an advising appointment on the 4C’s website.
