Radio Club’s New, Plentiful Podcasts

by Zachariah Supka

When people think of WKKL and Radio Club, they often think of the station itself, but many do not know about the podcasting side of the station. The Radio Club has instilled podcasting into its list of productions, something quite new, which has been a great addition. Many members of the club have been making podcasts with many different genres and styles that are making new moves for WKKL.

Abby Bishop has been at WKKL since the beginning of the semester and plans to continue in the club. She has a podcast with the Club President, Cj Nicholas, and Vice President, Robert Mariott, called the Big Three. “It’s really not about anything specific,” said Bishop, “we just come up with ideas either before or during the show. We like to rely on the casual aspect of the show when it comes to defining a certain genre.” This podcast has been one of the first of many for WKKL and the Radio Club.

Quinn Miller’s podcast does have a genre as well as an expected regime within his show. His show is called “A Friendlier Neighborhood: The Soul of Spiderman,” which is all about the backstory of Spiderman and diving deeper into the Spidey-universe. “Radio club and the radio classes I'm in, essentially any of my experiences making stuff for and with WKKL has helped me learn how to edit audio and make it sound and flow nice as well as both how to speak better and collaborate in a way I wasn't completely comfortable with before either.” The Radio Club has helped its members, not only through radio and podcasting production, but as well as finding new ways to work with others.

One of the most involved members when it comes to podcasting is the Club’s President Cj Nicholas. Cj is on five podcasts with his two leading ones: Live after Lunch and Morning

Charge. “Morning charge is more of a fighting-based sports podcast,” said Nicholas, “where Live after lunch is more of a basketball and football and baseball podcast…WKKL has given me more of a following to work with where I only had a small following with no direction before I came to this college.”

WKKL has started off many students with podcast opportunities and productions of much variety, setting up their skills as podcasters if they choose to keep up with it after WKKL.
