Higgins Art Gallery at Cape Cod Community College presents Mutable Landscapes, textile works by Alexa Elam. Featuring works in media including appliqué, embroidery, and hand painted fabrics, inspired by thickets that border paths, roads, highways and train tracks.

About the artist:

Alexa Elam was born and raised in Richmond, Virginia, where she learned embroidery and sewing in childhood. She works in a variety of media, including appliqué, embroidery, painting, and weaving. She studied Textiles at Virginia Commonwealth University and The Worcester Center for Crafts prior to earning her BA in History from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, and a JD from Brooklyn Law School. She has maintained a studio practice while attending law school, throughout two decades of living and working in New York City, and in her current residence in Truro, Massachusetts.
