Cape Cod Community College Launches New Social Media and Digital Marketing Program
July 1, 2019Starting this Fall, Cape Cod Community College will launch a new program designed to give students the education and training necessary to move into the growing professional field of social media management. The new “Social Media and Digital Marketing” certificate program at the College starts September 3, and applications are currently being accepted.
Students who enroll in the program will be able to graduate in just nine months with full-time enrollment and will gain hands-on experience through individualized internships in the community. Classes in the program include Human Communication, English Composition, Mass Communication, Journalism, Web Authoring and Graphic Tools, Computer Graphics, and Social Media Marketing.
“We are very excited to start this relevant and in-demand program at 4Cs,” said John Cox, President of Cape Cod Community College. “More than ever, when students come to our door they are demanding programming that gives them both a solid educational foundation and a foothold into a sustainable career. The Social Media and Digital Marketing program meets those needs, and we’re looking forward to growing the next wave of these professionals in the region.”
According to the Occupational Outlook Handbook, employment in media and communication occupations is projected to grow over the next five years, with increased demand by businesses to create, translate, and disseminate information via web-based media platforms. The median wage for media and communications occupations is well-above the national average, reported at more than $56,000 as of May 2017. Perhaps most important to starting in this career path is experience.
“Entry level media and communications positions – from marketing and public relations to social media and website management – require prior, hands-on experience,” said Dr. Kathy Vranos, Dean of Arts and Humanities at Cape Cod Community College. “We know how critical that experience is, which is why every student in the Social Media and Digital Marketing program will be placed into an internship. The education and experience students will get in this program will help them build their resumes and start their careers in the field.”
Space is limited in the program for students who wish to complete by May 2020. To apply to the program, prospective students can complete the College’s Admissions Application or e-mail [email protected] for questions on how to enroll.
