4Cs to host “Sisters in STEM” event this Wednesday as part of Massachusetts STEM Week
October 21, 2019On Wednesday, October 23 from 5:00–7:30pm, Cape Cod Community College will welcome 6th, 7th, and 8th grade girls from all across to region to celebrate as “Sisters in STEM” on the College’s West Barnstable Campus.
50–60 middle school girls from across the Cape and Islands will be on campus exploring science, technology, engineering, and math through several fun and in-depth activities, including:
- Dissecting a shark
- Designing and 3D printing a keychain using SolidWorks
- Creating a magnetic homing device to navigate the Earth’s magnetic system
The event is free to attend, and is open to girls in 6-8th grades on the Cape and Islands. The “Sisters in STEM” even is one of the signature events for Massachusetts STEM Week, which runs October 21–25. The event is coordinated by the Cape Cod Regional STEM Network with support of mentors from 500 Women Scientists, Atlantic White Shark Conservancy, and faculty and students from Cape Cod Community College.
